First Trailer For Bernie, Starring Jack Black And Matthew McConaughey
It's a scene we've seen a million times before. A reporter goes to talk with the neighbors of a reported serial killer and they ask if they ever noticed anything suspicious about the murderer. The response is always the same, "Not at all, he/she was the nicest person on the block." It's a common trope and one that's right at the center of the first trailer for Richard Linklater's Bernie.
The film tells the story of Bernie Tiede, a Texas funeral director who was beloved by everyone in town, but secretly had murdered a local 80-year-old woman and kept her stashed in a freezer. It's a creepy premise that Linklater has used to fuel his dark comedy and you can get your first taste of the film below courtesy of Yahoo!
This preview has its moments, but really the standout thing for me is Matthew McConaughey. We've become so used to the guy playing the dumb, muscular ladies man and this movie seems to turn that all around. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is he wearing a toupee? The actor does have a history with Linklater, having previously starred in Dazed and Confused and The Newton Boys, but we'll have to wait and see if they are able to create another memorable performance.
Bernie also stars Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine. Look for the film when it arrives in theaters on April 27th and to read more about the title head over to our Blend Film Database.
