First Trailer For Zack Snyder's Legend Of The Guardians![]()
In the last few days we've been hit with a lot of news about "Zack Snyder's owl movie," from the title change that dubbed it Legend of the Guardians instead of Guardians of Ga'Hoole to the first character images that debuted earlier today. Now to top it all is the premiere of the movie's first trailer, which just popped up at Yahoo! Movies.
You can watch it embedded below or click over there for the glorious high-res version. Honestly, I'm not totally sure what to make of it. It strikes me as your classic hero's journey, in which a youngster in inspired to greatness when he joins the legendary warriors he's always admired-- except, you know, it's taking place in a giant tree where owls live. All kinds of famous voices, from Helen Mirren to Lost's Emilie de Ravin, pop up, and some of the battle sequences carry a similar thrill to all that banshee-riding in Avatar. But an entire movie? About heroic owls? Forgive me for not quite being sold just yet. Luckily they've got until September 24 of this year to get me on board. Given the title change and the release date, though, you know what this movie is reminding me of? The Seeker: The Dark is Rising, which came and went quickly in the fall of 2007, despite being an adaptation, like Guardians of a beloved children's book. Is this one doomed to the same fate?
