Footloose Goes Ahead Without Efron![]()
Zac Efron apparently had a moment of clarity a few months ago, in which he realized that a future as a song-and-dance man might not be what he was looking for. Personally, I have no idea why-- the kid has charisma to spare that's only amplified when he kicks off his Sunday shoes. But Efron dropped out of the planned remake of Footloose, leaving the Kenny Ortega-directed production seeking another singing-dancing leading man who could actually draw in audiences.
I figured this quandary would shut the production down for good. But according to Coming Soon, Paramount has set a June 18, 2010 release date for the film, even with no star in place. Are they just going to settle for High School Musical sidekick Corbin Bleu and be done with it? Are they going to turn some unknown into Efron's greatest rival? Are they kidding us with this harebrained remake scheme? Will anyone bother to see a movie that was clearly Efron's star vehicle without Efron in it? |
