Fort Smith Puts On True Gritapalooza![]()
Leave it to Jeff Bridges to somehow wind up playing another drunk, slovenly character obsessed over and quoted ad nauseum by random fanatics congregated together. Unlike with Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, Jeff Bridges will always have to share, or even defer, credit to original portrayer John Wayne; however, there’s still something to be said for 500 plus people screaming your lines at the top of their lungs in preparation for your film’s release.
Yes, 500 men, women and children got out their eye patches and descended on Fort Smith, Arkansas, for a ceremony they dubbed True Gritapalooza. Fort Smith is the inspiration for and location of the film, and it’s the future home of a 50 million dollar U.S. Marshall’s Museum. Apparently, the town is the place where more Marshals worked, died and were buried than anywhere else in the United States. Who knew?
