Foster To Portray Nazi Heroine![]()
Jodie Foster is a stunning actress. From 1975’s Taxi Driver to 1991’s Silence Of The Lambs, she has perfectly captured every complex and multi-layered role she’s played. Sadly, as her fame and almost universal acclaim has risen, she’s receded from Hollywood and into her private life. Occasionally, she emerges to tackle a particularly interesting project, but these few and far between glimmers are not enough to satiate hungry film fans.
In a surprising move, The Observer is reporting that the forty-four year-old starlet has signed on to portray Hitler’s propaganda chief Leni Riefenstahl. You may remember the German national as the brilliant filmmaker whose homages to Hitler and Nazism wooed European audiences in the thirties and forties. She covered everything from the Olympic Games in Berlin to Third Reich rallies all across Germany. Like salt and pepper, Pondarosa Steakhouse and Salmonella or Ugg Boots and Venereal Diseases, Nazi odes and controversy always go hand and hand. People would just rather forget Adolf Hitler and his associates ever existed. Thankfully, there’s still some filmmakers bold enough to examine the heated topic. Look for this film to neither lionize nor cast a negative light on the former dancing director. The script isn’t exactly completed yet, but for the first time in almost seven years, the project actually looks to be getting off the ground. So here’s to the fearless visionaries ready to embrace media and public dissention in order to tell an amazing and historically accurate story. |
