Fox Buys New Sci-Fi Pitch; McG To Produce, Possibly Direct![]()
There are some days that the film industry feels like a puzzle wrapped in an enigma, where left is right, up is down and dogs like cats. Other days it proves itself to be as straightforward as any other business. This past weekend Battle: Los Angeles was a hit at the box office and for the second time today a studio has picked up an over-sized sci-fi movie.
Deadine reports that 20th Century Fox has purchased a pitch for "a large-scale science fiction adventure" movie. Details about the story are unknown, but David Callaham, who co-wrote The Expendables with Sylvester Stallone, has been hired to write the script. McG, who last got involved in the epic sci-fi game with Terminator: Salvation, is currently attached as a producer and may also direct the film. Also still on the docket for the producer/director is Ouija, which is currently being written by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis. I'm still waiting for the day that McG proves why he keeps getting control over these high profile projects. While he did start off strong at the box office with the Charlie's Angels movies, his two most recent films - We Are Marshall and the aforementioned Terminator: Salvation - underperformed in theaters. Perhaps This Means War with Tom Hardy and Chris Pine will help reestablish him later this year. |
