Fans of Terrence Malick have been waiting for his next film, The Tree of Life, since it was first announced in 2005. Despite rocking a cast headlined by Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, however, it has taken ages to get a release. I have some good news: 2011 will be your year. Fox Searchlight has announced that they have picked up Malick's film for distribution with plans to bring it to theaters next year. Set in the 1950s, the film follows the eldest son of a mid-western family as he grows from childhood into adulthood and tries to reconcile with his father.

The film has been finished for months now and was originally meant to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, but ended up having to drop out at the last minute. The buzz behind the film has been overwhelming, with rumors about incredible effects shots and a concept that we've never seen before. In the meantime, let's just hope that things actually work out this time.
