For her follow-up to Slumdog Millionaire, Freida Pinto will be working with an eccentric auteur (Woody Allen), maybe becoming a Bond girl, and, well, working with another eccentric auteur. The Indian actress has signed on for Julian Schnabel's next project, Miral, about a woman who founded an orphanage in Jerusalem after Israel was created in 1948.

And no, Pinto won't be playing the main character-- I think she's still a bit young for that. Instead, Variety reports that Hiam Abbass will be playing the main character, Hind Husseini. Abbass was most recently seen in a fantastic supporting role in The Visitor, playing the mother of the man who moves in with Richard Jenkins' character.

Schnabel's last film, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, may have established him as a director as much as he's been revered in the art world for decades. I'm very, very excited to see what he does next, taking his painterly, expressionistic visuals and telling a true, potentially fascinating story.
