I have a love/hate relationship with Hollywood Video. A few years ago they charged me obscene amounts of money for mistakenly breaking the horrid George Romero directed disaster Monkey Shines. Sure, I may have thrown the movie against a wall, but it was two hours of a quadriplegic and a damn dirty ape. It was really the only sensible reaction. Unfortunately, I can’t get myself to completely loathe the rental chain because they have the greatest bargain in the history of shopping. 4 movies for 20 dollars! That’s like finding a dollar wrapped in five dollar bills.

It was during one of my many browsing adventures through Hollywood Video that I sleuthed my way into finding American Splendor. I may not have seen it, but it was only 5 dollars. 5 dollars! I loose that much in change monthly. Naturally, I forked over the money and raced home, eager to watch my new find. And a funny thing happened. I developed not one but two man crushes. Paul Giamatti was awesome, but who was this other guy?

I soon discovered the “other guy” was Judah Friedlander, a standup comic and hat enthusiast. Soon, I began noticing this unkempt beast in bit rolls everywhere. He was the dude giving people hugs in a ‘Dave Matthews Band’ video. He was in Zoolander, Along Came Polly, ‘Best Week Ever’, and ’30 Rock’ but I was still left craving more of his offbeat humor. Fortunately, I’m about to see a little bit more.

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming Friedlander has signed on to appear in Eddie Murphy’s new film Starship Dave. The laugher will follow a group of miniature beings that band together to construct a mock human in a desperate attempt to save their world. Comic genius Ed Helms will also star along with Elizabeth Banks(40 Year Old Virgin,Slither). It should be in theaters sometime next May.

Here’s to hoping this one turns out a little more like 48 Hrs and a little less like Bowfinger
