With the success of Sex and the City movie this summer, I figured it was only a matter of time before producers started looking at other largely-successful television shows to see what could be transplanted to the big screen. In the sitcom realm there really are only a few choices to pick from: Seinfeld, The Cosby Show, and Friends, among a few others. Guess what - one of those three is becoming a movie.
Daily Mail Online reports that a Friends film production has finally been given a green light, with all six cast members slated to return, although deals haven’t been worked out with the actors quite yet. The expectation according to their inside source is that filming could start within the next 18 months.
If my opening sounds cynical, it isn’t. There’s been talk of a Friends movie since the show ended its ten-year television run, but some of the cast (particularly Jennifer Aniston) were put-off by the idea of returning to the characters which made them famous. Because, you know, it’s so horrible to have gotten famous off of one thing. Reportedly, Aniston is specifically interested in returning to Central Perk and her Friends because of the load of dough Sex and the City made though, not because of the integrity of the characters was so phenomenal or anything.
I can get a Sex and the City movie, since the show ended with some vagueness about the future for all of the characters. Friends pretty well ended with a spelled out conclusion for the characters, so I can’t say I’m as intrigued by a movie. By the end of the show I was only haphazardly watching anyway, so a movie of a show that’s charm had worn off for me just isn’t all that inspiring.

The only thing worse than a show about 6 lazy jerks who do nothing and still have enough money to live in high-end New York apartments is a movie about those 6 lazy jerks.
Personally, I'd take this in another direction and make it a slapstick spoof with Ben Stiller, Will Farrel, Steve Carell, Anna Ferris, Amy Sedaris, and Jennifer Aniston. Why keep Jen? Because, well, she's enough of a joke on her own as it is.
I THINK ITS LIKE THE BEST IDEA EVER!! I LOVED FRIENDS AND I STILL WATCH IT NOW!! I THINK IT WILL DO WAY BETTER THEN SEX AND THE CITY!! I LOVE FRIENDS AND I AM 110% SURE IT WILL DO WELL IM SOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!
