From Rachel's Wedding To Prom![]()
The wedding in Rachel Getting Married was a chaotic, hilarious, mutli-ethnic experience, which is pretty much exactly what I'd imagine for a prom at a school full of kids from different countries. So that movie's screenwriter Jenny Lumet is a completely perfect choice to write This Strange Thing Called Prom, based on a New York Times article about a high school in Brooklyn and their highly unusual school.
As Variety explains it, the school features students from countries as varied as Tibet and Ghana, and wasn't planning to have a prom until several of the female students decided to organize one. You can read the original Times article here and get a feel for the story that Lumet will undoubtedly do an amazing job of translating to the screen. Sorry to sound like an overheated fan, but Lumet wrote a great screenplay for Rachel Getting Married, and that Oscar snub still stings, so I'll be rooting for her all the way. |
