Peter Morgan, the screenwriter who has managed to make exciting movies out of things like a conversation between a journalist and an ex-President (Frost/Nixon) and the moral quandary faced by an elderly monarch (The Queen), will now be tasked with perhaps toning down the most exciting character in cinema: Bond. James Bond. MGM has announced that Morgan will team with Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to handle the writing duties on Bond 23, which will once again star Daniel Craig as 007.

Purvis and Wade have written the last four Bond films, and apparently like having a third cook on the kitchen: Paul Haggis helped them write Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. It's fair to argue that both of those films had script problems, and could have used a writer with a better grasp of multiple narrative threads and the confidence to slow things down once a while. Is Morgan that guy? Maybe-- the Bond franchise is so much bigger than any one screenwriter that it's hard to imagine him having a huge impact. But the previous two films are a good jumping off point, and if Morgan comes in with a clear head and desire to show us as much Daniel Craig shirtless as possible, things will probably work out just fine.
