Burned out by Terminator given all the talk around the new movie? How about a visit to a post-apocalyptic future in which the resistance against the machines is fought by puppets? That seems to be the basic idea behind Shane Acker's 9, the animated movie that's been gaining buzz for months thanks to its stunning visuals and intriguing, super-dark concept.

Now to give us a better idea of what it's all about, we have the film's first official trailer embedded below. Voices the likes of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly and Martin Landua contribute to the story of a group of animated puppets, given life by their creator, trying to figure out why the machines are bent on destroying them. Just a hint: if one of them is named John Connor, he might have some explanation.
