The Full Monty's Peter Cattaneo May Direct Bridget Jones 3![]()
The third Bridget Jones movie may be close to having a director, and from the sound of it, this one will be British enough to handle the project. The Full Monty’s Peter Cattaneo is in talks to direct the film, which will reunite Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant for more zany adventures of the diary-keeping Bridget, based on Helen Fielding’s popular novels.
Deadline posted the news about Cattaneo, stating that the Rocker helmer has been circling the project for a while. Should negotiations go well, Cattaneo will fill the gap left by Paul Feig, who was originally set to direct Bridget Jones’ Baby but stepped away from it because, according to Deadline, “the feeling was that the Helen Fielding novels and film series has an inherently British sensibility that made it better suited for a British helmer.” In that respect, Cattaneo fits the bill much better. Paul Feig was working on the latest draft of the film’s script, which was written by Fielding and David Nichols for the movie. As shooting for the movie is set to begin early next year, let’s hope things work out with Cattaneo, or that they find someone capable of taking on the project and bringing us the next chapter in Bridget’s story, which will presumably have her either pregnant or set up as a new mom, based on the title. |
