Full Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Trailer: Evolution Becomes Revolution
Unlike the first teaser trailer that hit in April, playing peekaboo with the special effects that will be the huge selling point, the new trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes gives it all away-- and it looks spectacular. Using motion-capture technology to allow Gollum himself, Andy Serkis, to play the leader of the ape revolution Caesar, the film looks to follow the origins of the giant revolution that leads to, well, the Planet of the Apes. Check out the trailer below to see what kind of awesome technology we're talking about.
Granted, not all of the effects look totally mind-blowing-- on some levels this looks like your average invasion action movie, except instead of aliens it's apes. But the close-up shots of Caesar, his face looking eerily half-human, really sell what's being presented as a kind of Frankenstein's monster scenario, James Franco as the scientist who makes Caesar smarter than the average ape and then reaps the awful consequences. I'm not really certain how much we need a summer blockbuster in which James Franco fights off rampaging gorillas, but this seems like proof that there will at least be something interesting to see once it gets here. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, still one of the worst blockbuster titles I've ever heard, opens on August 5. |
