He's done such a good job playing upstanding citizen Lt. (now Commisioner) Jim Gordon, not to mention the misunderstood SIrius Black, it's easy to forgot that Gary Oldman is capable of playing bad guys, too. But now he'll get the chance to threaten none other than Denzel Washington in Book of Eli, the post-apocalyptic drama about a lone warrior trying to save civilization.
Variety says Oldman will play the "despot" of a local town who fights back against Washington's character's efforts-- because you know those bad guys, always trying to prevent the salvation of the world. Oldman's bound to do a good job with it, though-- when has he not?-- and he makes a worthy adversary for Washington, who will inevitably save the world anyway.
