Gaslight Gets The Greenlight![]()
Some classic movies may be best left untouched, but then what would online journalists like myself complain about?
According to Variety, Warner Bros. is remaking the 1944 thriller Gaslight. The MGM movie starred Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman, and earned a whopping seven Oscar nominations (and a win for Bergman). Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice) will make his U.S. directorial debut, and Abi Morgan is penning the script. The original film is about a ladykiller who woos a wealthy woman to move into a horror house. While there, he tries to convince her that she is going insane. The term ‘gaslighting’ (hence the title) refers to driving someone literally bonkers. In the new version, the story will take place in California. This isn’t a remake that gets me furious like many of the others do. As long as nobody dares to update Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (as some frightening online rumors suggest), I will try and remain a sane member of society. |
