A rumor popped up last week that had everybody buzzing: Gemma Arterton to play the new Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott's Alien prequel. A representative for the actress was quick to shut it down, saying that there was "no truth" to the story, but Arterton is saying something completely different.

Entertainment Weekly had a chance to speak with the actress, who is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival, and she confirmed that she has been in discussions about the film, saying, "“The honest truth is that Ridley Scott has approached me to meet with him about something in the next few weeks. He saw Alice Creed and loved it.” This however, means nothing as Scott currently has not only the Alien prequels coming up, but also the Monopoly movie, The Kind One, a Gucci biopic, Stoker, and The Wolf of Wall Street. Truly any of those films could include a role for a hot British actress. Arterton went on to say that she would be more than happy to be in the prequels, however, saying, "I’d love to get buff. But maybe I’ll be playing an alien! I wouldn’t mind that, actually. I like dressing up. That’s why I became an actor in the first place."

We'll likely hear more about this story in the coming weeks, but, for now, don't get too excited. There is just as much chance that Arterton will be the new Ellen Ripley as there is that she will be playing Mr. Moneybags' wife.
