MOVIE NEWS
Gender-Bending Splash Picked Up By Universal![]()
Mermen don't seem to be the same kind of universal fantasies that mermaids are, but come on, I think it's high time they have their own movie. Luckily Jennifer Abu Hollander thinks like I do, and she's sold her romantic comedy Merman to Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.
Hilariously, Splash producer Brian Grzer will also be behind this one, which indicates he knows a good, fishy idea when he sees one. Variety says the story is about a merman who comes to earth to win back his fiancee, who has left him to take up with a human. Hollander came up with the story along with Jeff Moskowitz. The story has shades of Enchanted, in the notion of a fantasy kind of guy facing off against a human being. Can James Marsden please, please, please play the Merman? That alone would be enough to get me to put full faith into this one. |
