George Clooney To Produce And Possibly Direct Film About The TARP Bailouts![]()
George Clooney has never been one to hide his politics. From films like Good Night and Good Luck to Syriana to even the movie he's working on now (which is basically about Howard Dean's 2004 Democratic primary campaign), Clooney has never been coy about which party he votes for come election day. That in mind, it's fairly easy to figure out why he'd be interested in this new project.
Variety reports that Clooney has signed on to produce and may direct a new movie about the TARP bailouts. Based on a 2009 Washington Post article titled "The $700 Billion Man," the story is about Neel Kashkari, who developed the deal to bail out the big banks alongside Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson after the economic collapse in 2008. Following the deal, Kashkari left Washington and moved to a cabin in Northern California where he could "detox" from politics. While I could understand why some people would have a problem with it - particularly those that don't agree with Clooney's political leanings - I don't personally have a problem with the actor/director infusing his movies with a political bend. Provided there's a story to tell, interesting characters and that he's not misleading anybody, I say let the guy make whatever goddamn movie he feels like making. |
