German-Dubbed Trailer For The Ghost Writer, Plus Translation

discussioncomments published: 2010-01-08 08:16:51 Author: Katey Rich
For a while it looked like Roman Polanski's house arrest in Switzerland would severely delay the release of his next film, The Ghost Writer, in which Pierce Brosnan plays a British Prime Minister with some nasty secrets and Ewan McGregor the ghostwriter hired to handle his memoirs, but finding himself in a murder investigation instead. And while Polanski's legal situation is still up in the air, The Ghost Writer is coming soon-- like, February 19 soon.

And even though there's somehow not a U.S. trailer yet, < a href=http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/01/08/the-ghost-writer-international-trailer-footage-from-polanskis-return-dubbed-auf-deutsch/>Slashfilm unearthed one dubbed in German. I attemped to use my high-school German to translate the thing, but as soon as I was finished a very helpful commenter over there posted a perfect translation. Below is the YouTube trailer, and below that, the translation from "alex88." Congratulations, Alex, your German is far better than mine.

And yet, even with the English dialogue, this movie looks like nothing more than standard boilerplate thriller. I mean, the tagline once translated is "Nothing is more dangerous than the truth." It's possible that a snazzier English-language trailer will be cut, and that with the actors' actual voices this whole enterprise will look a little less like your typical February release. But I wouldn't keep my hopes up.
