Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein managed some level of success with their latest script, He's Just Not That Into You, which follows several people and couples whose romances come together and fall apart around a particular theme. Now, even before that movie opens, they'll be working with the same formula again with Valentine's Day, a romantic comedy being fast-tracked for a February 2010 release.

Garry Marshall, the comedy veteran behind movies like Beaches and Pretty Woman (as well as uh, Georgia Rule and Raising Helen), has been set to direct the movie, which follows 10 people in Los Angeles on Valentine's Day. Variety notes that the script was originally written by Katherine Fugate, an experienced comedy writer herself. No telling what Kohn and Silverstein brought to the new draft, other than an ability to write romantic comedy cliches in a way that attracts top-shelf talent.

I kid, I kid-- I really kinda enjoyed He's Just Not That Into You. And it's obvious that there's a real appeal in these intersecting stories narratives, whether it's Crash and Babel or Love Actually and Playing By Heart. I'm just not sure about the Valentine's Day hook-- is that really enough of a momentous occasion to be the center point of an entire movie? And on a much more personal level, isn't that just escalating the pressure for the rest of us to be out buying candy and flowers this very instant? Screw you and your dictatorship, Valentine's Day!
