Production is still running ahead at a lightning pace for Little Fockers, with a cast lined up and a script being written as we speak. Now Pete Segal, who made last summer's Get Smart, is apparently the frontrunner for the directing job.

Segal had been planning to make Get Smart 2 this year, according to Variety, but Steve Carell went off to make a romantic comedy with Tina Fey instead. Now Segal may be preparing to direct John Hamburg's script, after meeting with the principal players on the film this week.

I still don't really know what to make of the existence of Meet the Fockers, and don't know if Segal will be able to make it feel relevant. I liked Get Smart a good bit, though, so if anyone can make me care again about Gaylord Focker and company, it may as well be this guy.
