Ghost Rider 2 Won't Be A Reboot, But It Will Be Existential

Ghost Rider 2 Won't Be A Reboot, But It Will Be Existential Ghost Rider 2 is happening, for some reason, and while there’d been rumors that it might be a reboot (started by Nic Cage) it sounds like we’re in for a pretty traditional sequel.

MTV caught up with Ghost Rider 2 screenwriter David Goyer who offered details on what’s up with the sequel’s the 9-year-old script, besides of course, watering it down to receive a PG-13 rating. Says Goyer, “It's not exactly a reboot… I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider.” Does that mean if there’s a Ghost Rider 3 it’ll be the flaming skull equivalent of Quantum of Solace? Let’s hope not. Once was enough.

Even though they seem to be intent on changing the tone, this is still a direct sequel. Goyer adds that the second film picks eight years after the first film. It won’t reference anything in the first film (because let’s face it, an awful lot of you never saw it) but in theory it takes place in the same direct line. It’s just “darker” which was good until it was overdone in every other movie, and “existential”… which seems a little ridiculous for a movie about a guy whose super power is lighting his face on fire.
