Ghostbusters Sequel Closer Than We Thought?

This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of Ghostbusters, and the movie is being celebrated in style. We’re finally getting the long-delayed video game follow up to the successful franchise, as well as a new anniversary edition of the movie on DVD/Blu-ray. What about that much rumored sequel being written by the staff of The Office though? Apparently that might work its way into production this year too.

Original Ghostbuster, Dan Aykroyd held a chat online via Boston.com to celebrate the opening of a new House of Blues location in Beantown. Even though he was there to talk about his restaurant, right out of the gate he was asked about Ghostbusters 3. His answer was an optimistic one: ”Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009.”

Now given, this is Hollywood, where schedules and timelines can change with the wind, but that’s a pretty hopeful outlook for the sequel. Might the Ghostbusters be ready to believe us soon? We certainly hope so… provided the script lives up to the first two.
