Giamatti in 2D

Sideways star Paul Giamatti, who has taught me nearly as much about wine as John Cleese, has signed up to headline Paper Man. According to Variety, the magazine that knows these things and charges you for the privilege of accessing their wisdom, tells me that the film is a comedy directed by a pair of first time screenwriters named Michele and Kieran Mulroney. Assuming Michele isn’t French, they’re probably a married couple, which should make for great breakup scripts once they go Hollywood and get divorced.

As for everyman loser Giamatti, he’ll be playing a writer who has lost his creative spark, something which no doubt readers of this site have been waiting for me to get for years. While dealing with the problems presented by an imaginary superhero friend, Giamatti strikes up a relationship with a high school girl and thus gets his spark back. It’s a shame I’m not into the whole school girl thing, maybe I could become a decent writer. I’ve already got the imaginary friend part covered. His name is Marvin and he is an unhappy robot.

Of course, the Mulroney’s don’t actually have a distribution deal yet, but once they get that locked down, look for the movie to hit next April.
