Gird Your Loins: The Twilight Saga Is Returning To San Diego Comic Con This Year![]()
Finally, the Comic Con crowd will once again be able to use Twihards as their punching bag. After taking last year off, Summit Entertainment has announced they'll be bringing the Twilight saga back to San Diego Comic Con this year, with a panel in the massive Hall H to promote part one The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, due in theaters November 18 this year. The panel will take place on the first day of the Con, Thursday, July 21, and Summit only specifies that it will be "one of the first panels of the day," getting ahead of the frequent complaints from two years ago, when crowds of Twilight fans camped out in Hall H all day waiting for the afternoon panel, locking out hundreds of fans who couldn't find room inside. Of course their argument was that the largely teenage, largely female crowd of Twilight fans couldn't possibly care about the earlier panels, but who's to say they weren't also psyched to learn about Tron: Legacy?
Breaking Dawn has pretty much nothing to do with comic books, being based on a novel series and all, but at this point that doesn't really matter-- San Diego Comic Con attracts movie studios and TV networks promoting nearly anything and everything, from Disney's multi-year effort to promote Tron: Legacy (based on an 80s film) to last year's panel dedicated to the Angelina Jolie vehicle Salt, which was already in theaters by the time Jolie flew to San Diego to rally the nerd base. Rumor has it that a number of studios will be sitting out the Con this year, possibly wary of that exact kind of misplaced promotion, meaning Breaking Dawn and the recently announced premiere for Cowboys & Aliens will be able to draw all the more attention. Summit won't just be courting the Twihards either-- they'll also have panels for the Paul W.S. Anderson-directed The Three Musketeers and the Russian alien invasion film The Darkest Hour, which stars Olivia Thirlby and Emile Hirsch. They're also starting promotion early for a number of films that will be based on books, holding signings with all of those authors. The full details are below, and keep coming back for more Comic Con planning as July 22 grows nearer. For the fourth year in a row, Summit Entertainment will provide the Comic-Con® International audience with a unique, interactive booth experience featuring films from the studio’s upcoming slate, including an action adventure update of the beloved THE THREE MUSKETEERS, the alien invasion thriller THE DARKEST HOUR with effects from visionary filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, and the highly anticipated THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1. |
