Glee star Chris Colfer is only 20 years old, but he's also that show's indisputable breakout star, and therefore has a lot more power in the movie industry than you or I can ever dream of. So whether or not his script for the teen comedy Struck by Lightning is any good-- and let's give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it is-- it will be going into production next summer, with Colfer also on board to star.

According to Variety Youth in Revolt's David Perlmut will be producing the film, which is said to be in the spirit of John Hughes movies (though it's worth noting that's what they say about pretty much every teen movie). They're currently looking for directors and other cast members of the film, which will shoot next year during the Glee hiatus. For Colfer's sake I hope his starring role is something far distant from Kurt Hummel, who is an amazing character in the context of Glee but who could haunt Colfer for the rest of his professional life if he doesn't try to break out into something different. I'm not saying I want to see him as some leather-bound motorcycle gearhead or even a science nerd, but so long as the movie isn't a musical it'll already be a step in the right direction. Even though Colfer's youth makes him likely to stay on Glee for the duration, setting up a back-up plan is never a bad thing.
