Good Luck, Anthony Belcher Gets A Director![]()
George Kay’s Good Luck, Anthony Belcher is following in Nowhere Boy and The Men Who Stare at Goats’ footsteps. Both Nowhere Boy and The Men Who Stare at Goats took the number one spots on the U.K.’s version of the Black List, the Brit List, in 2008 and 2007 respectively and both have been made. Not only was this year’s list leader, Good Luck, Anthony Belcher, picked up by U.K.-based indie Ruby Films, but now it has a director.
According to THR, Jim Field Smith has signed on to direct the dramedy about a guy plagued with bad luck who ends up earning a week of good fortune when the Department of Good Luck misplaces his file. James Corden will take the lead role. I’m not familiar with any of the films on Smith’s resume but he did just wrap the romantic comedy She’s Out of My League with Lindsay Sloane, Jay Baruchel, Krysten Ritter, and Mike Vogel. The other films earning a top-five spot on the Brit List are Neil Purvis and Rob Wade's Corsica 72, Ol Parker's Now Is Good, Simon Beaufoy's Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Deborah Davis' Balance of Power. This list of top unproduced scripts is assembled by a group of producers and studio executives from the UK and Ireland. |
