Gossip Girl Actor Joins The Les Miserables Cast
Tom Hooper's adaptation of Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil's Les Miserables already has one hell of a stellar cast. In addition to Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, who play Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, respectively, the Oscar winning filmmaker has also brought Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and Eddie Redmayne along for the ride. But Hooper is not done yet.
According to THR, Aaron Tveit is the newest addition to the Les Miserables cast. Though he film experience is minimal - he played roles in Ghost Town, Howl and Girl Walks into a Bar - but he is best known for playing Trip van der Bilt on the show Gossip Girl. Tveit will play Enjolras in the film, a character who leads the student revolution. What's more, the trade says that while Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter have had their names connected to the project, they are not yet officially signed on. William Nicholson, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg wrote the script, which was, in turn, based on the book by Victor Hugo.
I must admit that I'm surprised this movie is still in the casting stage. Universal has set a December 7, 2012 release date for the movie, meaning that it needs to be put in production very soon if it doesn't want to feel like a rush job. Seeing as the actors will be performing all of their music live on camera, that will probably take less time than recording them separately, but it's always to have time and not needed than to need it and not have it.
