It's unclear right now, based on the various trailers that have surfaced online, whether Paul Greengrass' Green Zone is a Bourne-style thriller or a more traditional kind of war-conspiracy movie. But the first poster for the film, which debuted at Empire Online, makes one thing clear-- this a movie with hunky Matt Damon!
OK, I'm sure the black and white poster, which you can see below and click on for a higher-res version, conveys more than Damon's chiseled face. In fact, it conveys three things-- Bourne! Bourne! Bourne! The grainy nature of the photo suggests Greengrass' trademark immediate visual style (seen in the second two Bourne movies, of course) and above the title is the promise "From the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum." Tellingly, even the caption doesn't mention the fact that the movie is set in Iraq, or even that Damon's character is a soldier: "Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller is done following orders." Sounds like rogue agent Bourne to me!
Of course, this is an international poster, and people in Europe probably care even less than we do about movies in Iraq. But they do seem to be doing a slight snow job advertising this movie, basically promising Bourne 4 but set in the desert. I have no idea if that's actually what we're getting, but it'd be nice to see more confidence in a non-franchise film.
