Guardians Of The Galaxy's Director Has Big, Long-Term Plans

James Gunn has been talking about his future plans for the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise and it sounds as if he will be working with the intergalactic posse for many more years to come. Which will be music to the ears of the millions of people from across the globe who fell in love with the franchise this summer.

James Gunn made the remarks while talking to Indiewire. He at first admitted that he had pretty much figured out what he wanted to do with a potential sequel while working on the original. He then went on to tease that he’s already got his plans etched out for further additions to the franchise now, too.

I had the basic story for number two while I was working on number one, and perhaps even beyond that. So [the sequel is] gonna answer a lot of questions that are proposed in the first one, and we’ll be able to get to know some of the characters we didn’t get to know in the first one a little bit more, and we might meet a few new characters too."

I think you’ll agree that all sounds rather exciting. But what will the sequel, which is set to hit cinemas on May 5, 2017, actually entail? The end of Guardians Of The Galaxy teased that the follow-up will more than likely revolve around Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord’s search for his father, who it turns out was actually an alien. The fact that he learnt that he also has an Awesome Mix Vol. 2 suggests that there will also be some new rollicking tunes to guide him on his way too. Which is a good thing really. I mean there is only so many times you can listen to "Hooked On A Feeling" without going insane.

Meanwhile, Star Lord will also be coming to terms with the fact that he is now the leader of the posse in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2. Which, when you consider the fact that he started off the first film as an egomaniac womanizer hell-bent on stealing a fortune for himself, is a pretty big arc. Either way, Chris Pratt has more than proven that he can carry a blockbuster on his shoulders. There is also plenty of room left for Zoe Saldana’s Gamora to grow. Now that she has teamed up with Peter Quill, Rocket, Drax, and Groot, she can finally step out from the shadow of Thanos. However, the fact that the rest of the galaxy still links her to him suggests that she will encounter some rough treatment along the way.

There’s still also Groot, who will be adjusting to life following his regeneration; Drax, who is hellbent on killing Thanos; and Rocket, who is just down to create as much havoc as possible -- each of whom have now established themselves as beloved cinematic characters. All with the mesmeric James Gunn delightfully pulling the strings from behind the camera and the probable addition of new characters too. Who needs The Avengers?
