Bruce Beresford directed the Oscar-winning Driving Miss Daisy in 1989, but it's been a long time since anything he made really found success with the public. Now he's returning to his homeland of Australia in what might be an attempt to turn it around. Variety reports that Beresford will direct Monica Bellucci, Miranda Otto and Guy Pearce in The Women in Black, a period comedy based on the novel by Madeline St. John.

It will be a homecoming for Pearce and Otto as well, given that both of them are Australian. The comedy, set in the 1960s, is about saleswomen working in a high-end department store and their families-- kind of a female Mad Men from the sound of it. Beresford said in Variety, "This is the film I have wanted to do ever since I first read Madeleine St. John's dazzling small novel." Any fans of the novel out there who want to give us some insight? And can we all agree that we're excited to see Pearce returning to comedy 15 years after The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert?
