As awesome as Sigourney Weaver, Ridley Scott and James Cameron are, the Alien movies wouldn't have been nearly as effective without the designs of H.R. Giger. In his creation of the acid-blooded, razor-tailed killing machine, Giger invented something both absolutely beautiful and horrific. Being such an important piece of the puzzle, the people behind the upcoming Alien prequel would be fools to not bring him back on board, and fools they are not.

The German website Kurier is reporting that the 70-year-old Swiss artist is once again working on the franchise that earned him a visual effects Oscar back in 1980. Speaking with Giger's wife, Carmen Scheifele, she confirmed that he will be reuniting with Scott on the project, though didn't give any details as to what his job will entail. One can assume, however, that his work will involve the mysterious "pilot" seen in the first film.

I think everyone can agree that this is fantastic news. What we'll see in the film is still largely a mystery, but whatever it is we now know that it will be both creepy and awesome.
