If you weren't already aware, Hollywood is now obsessed with revisionist fairy tales. Ever since Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland made over a billion dollars at the global box office, studios have been pushing hard on the sub-genre, with three Snow White movies, two Peter Pan projects and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters being prepped to be released next year. Now we're getting ready for another dose of Sleeping Beauty.

Deadline reports that Oscar nominated True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld is now attached to a spec script version of the Charles Perrault tale. "But why would such a great up-and-coming actress want to take a role that involves her sleeping for most of the story?" you may ask. The answer is that the plot is basically Sleeping Beauty by way of Inception. The story will be told from the point of view of the princess as she tries to escape the dream world. The script is currently being shopped to buyers. Written by Lindsay Devlin, the project is actually one of two based on the classic tale, with Disney still developing Maleficent which, as of last March, had Angelina Jolie interested and Tim Burton directing.

if it wasn't already evident in my review of True Grit, I have huge hopes for the career of of Hailee Steinfeld, but this project sounds like its just trying to capitalize on two fads at once. Then again, my whole perception could be changed if they attach a proper director.
