Hairspray Uses Travolta

John Travolta has signed up to be in the movie version of the Broadway version of the musical Hairspray, a concept that gets a little dizzying once the word “version” has to come in to play more than once.

At last, he won’t have to invent excuses for himself to dance in every movie he appears in, the dancing will happen as a natural part of the script. Travolta will play Edna Turnblad, who I’m just going to assume isn’t a nearsighted superhero costume designer. Also hopefully not female. I’ve not desire to see John Travolta soft-shoeing in drag.

The really exciting part of this story, is that according to Variety, the film’s screenplay will be written by Leslie Dixon, the guy who co-wrote Look Who’s Talking Now with Travolta. This officially means Travolta’s career is once again dead, doesn’t it? Where’s Tarantino?
