Harry Potter’s $22 million in earnings at midnight showings may be the biggest of all time, but the boy wizard’s total opening day box office is less record breaking. It’s only the fourth biggest of all time.
ERC reports that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince earned a whopping $58 million on Wednesday, its opening day. It’s the fourth biggest single-day gross of all time, bested only by Spider-Man 3 with $59 million, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with $62 million, and the all time champ The Dark Knight with $67 million.
That means that after earning that $22 million in midnight showings, fans showed up and handed over $36 million more to Daniel Radcliffe and his friends. Expect equally big numbers over this weekend. Transformers finally has some box office competition.
