Halle Back For X3? Halle Berry’s disdain for her part in the X-Men franchise is no secret. She’s quick to dismiss her role in it. She’s also been demanding that the third film in the franchise focus around her since well before the second movie’s run in theaters had even ended. Naturally, we all assumed that because of this, she wouldn’t be involved in the third film. After all, this is the X-Men, not Storm and the X-Men. Cyclops and the gang don’t play Pussycats to her Josie, no matter how many Oscars she’s won. At least that’s what common sense would tell you. Unfortunately, it seems that the folks at Fox may be well on their way to abandoning reason for madness.
Halle Berry is talking about X3 and her potential involvement. Who knew she had any? Well she does, which must mean that Fox is at least talking to her about some of those demands for more camera. She had this to say to the New York Post’s Page Six: “Storm has been a little shortchanged," Berry says. "If we go back and do one more, which we're all in talks of doing, it will be paramount that Storm rise up and be the true warrior and woman that she is in the comic book, which was why I got involved in the first place." That sounds frighteningly a lot like her old spiel about giving Storm more screen time. Page Six even agrees by adding, “Berry is also up for a third "X-Men" movie, though she admits that she might change her mind if her character, Storm, doesn't get some better action.” Let’s hope whoever ends up helming this thing, whether it be Robert Rodriguez as recently rumored (in fact CountingDown.com reported this morning that they’re casting for X3 in Austin… Robert Rodriguez stomping ground) or someone else, has the sense to realize that X-Men is a lot bigger than Halle Berry and the cahones to keep Fox from being sucked in by her star power. The franchise doesn’t need her. In the first film she was a liability; in the second film she merely acquitted herself solidly. X-Men will be just fine with or without her playing Storm. She’s not bigger than the story. X-Men needs less Storm, not more. |
