With actors winning Oscars by pretending to be musicians, the music world figures it’s about time their forays into acting were carried out by someone besides rappers. Enter Alicia Keys.

Variety reports that highly touted songstress Alicia Keys (who writes her own music) is slated to star in the movie Compositions in Black and White. Adapted from a biography of the same name by Motorcycle Diaries scribe Jose Rivera (No relation to Geraldo or the Buick. Or is that the Riviera?), the film will tell the story of a mixed-race woman named Phillipa Schuyler. A musical child-prodigy in the 30’s, Phillipa fought for her music against the segregation and racism of her time. Had she simply refused to sit in the back of a bus instead of creating music, perhaps someone might know who she is without this abbreviated explanation.

As a footnote, Halle Berry is actually producing the movie, but likely won’t be in it.
