I still haven’t figured out quite what to make of Hamlet 2, the latest comedy from Andrew Fleming (Nancy Drew, Dick). I’m not really a fan of leading man Steve Coogan, and I can’t say I’m tremendously familiar with Fleming’s other work. Of course, the big selling point is Pam Brady’s involvement, who was part of the writing staff for South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut and Team America: World Police. At the same time, I’m a theater geek, and there’s a ton of potential with the movie’s storyline, which follows a failed-actor-turned-drama-teacher who decides to create a sequel to Shakespeare’s tragic tale with his high school students.
We’ve received five clips from the upcoming comedy and they don’t help me make up my mind. The clip from the musical number “Rock Me Sexy Jesus” is irreverent enough to be funny, but Coogan still isn’t winning me over with his antics in some of the other clips. I do like me some Elizabeth Shue, however, and I’m glad to see a clip that finally explains her appearance here.
I guess I’ll have to wait until the movie’s August 27th release date to make up my mind on the picture. You can check out the five clips below and see what you think.
