If you have a girl between the ages of 6 and 13, you probably live in a Hannah Montana world. Miley Cyrus, daughter of former country music flash-in-the-pan Billy Ray Cyrus, stars in the Disney Channel television show about a girl who is secretly the biggest tween pop star on the planet. The show’s popularity has made the Miley/Hannah monster the biggest tween pop star on the planet. For those of you still not getting it, think Hillary Duff before she faded into oblivion. Or Brittney Spears, minus the whoreish insanity.
Much like the Monkees did about 40 years ago; the television pop singer took her act on the road and played to sold out arenas everywhere. Parents lied, cheated, and proved their love to their princesses by getting the tickets and listening to about 90 minutes of inoffensive pap split between the Miley and Hannah personas. The tour was filmed in digital 3-D and the film of Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert opens today.
HR is reporting that all those parents who didn’t love their daughters (Hannah, like Hillary has no male or adult fans) enough to get concert tickets have been burning up the pre-sale sites to make sure little Megan and Kaylee will have their tickets for the movie. Both Fandango and Movietickets.com say the film, which is playing in 684 theaters for one week only, is on pace to be one of the top pre-sale movies ever. On Wednesday, the movie was accounting for 91% of pre-sale tickets at Fandango. This doesn’t seem that surprising considering the limited run of the movie and the popularity of the character with girls who will refuse to stop screaming until they get what they want. Don’t worry folks, your kids will be moving on to the next pre-packaged fad in about 6 months or so. I won’t tell you how many of those pre-sale tickets were sold to my household.
