Happy Feet was supposed to get a sequel what seems like ages ago, but now something is finally getting done on a followup to the critically acclaimed 2006 animated movie. THR says Elijah Wood and Robin Williams are in negotiations to reprise their roles as the voices of Mumble and the wise-cracking, weirdo Ramon respectively.

Except I can’t help but wonder if they’re too late. Back in 2006 everyone seemed to be on board with wanting more penguins, penguins were the new it creature and Happy Feet was a lot of fun. Three years later and everyone seems to have forgotten that Happy Feet even existed and we’ve long since moved on from penguins to horny vampires. I guess my question is does anyone care about Happy Feet anymore? Is anyone really still excited about Happy Feet 2? Besides, where else do we go with this story? We’ve covered the Mumble can’t sing thing. He’s a dancer. I guess for the sequel he could become a rapper. Or maybe a vampire. People like vampires.

The original was directed by George Miller and he’s back for the sequel, but I think we can all agree that his time would be much better spent on Mad Max: Fury Road. Enough with the penguins, that’s so 2006.
