Little Harry Potter has hopped back on his release date pogo-stick. Don’t worry fans, this time he’s hopping in the right direction: closer.
The next installment in the Potter franchise, titled Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, had been scheduled for a Friday July 17th bow, but Warner Brothers has decided to move it up. ERC reports that it’s now opening on Wednesday July 15th. That lines up with the release pattern used on previous Potter summer releases. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix also has a mid-week release in July, and like all Potter movies went on to make out big.
Ultimately the release date doesn’t matter. It’s Harry Potter, the 800lb box office gorilla. In fact Harry’s such a force that there’s nothing else opening anywhere around it, except for Fox Searchlight’s indie movie 500 Days of Summer, which they’re no doubt hoping will land some sort of counter-programming audience when it opens in limited release the same day.
