Has Kato Killed Seth Rogen's Green Hornet?![]()
It looks like yet another expedition to turn the Green Hornet into a feature film is about to sink beneath the choppy waves of development hell. The latest attempt to make it happen came courtesy of Seth Rogen, who’s written a script and was set to star in the film. All seemed on track at first, they quickly found a director in Stephen Chow and a sidekick… also Stephen Chow. Then Chow quit the director’s chair and started waffling publicly about whether he was still interested in playing Kato. Suddenly Chow was more keen on doing original material leading us here, to a project that could be in trouble.
HitFix claims that they’ve been hearing bad mojo surrounding the project. According to their anonymous sources, it’s “highly unlikely” that the film will shoot this year as originally expected. Whether their sources are reliable is unknown, but with Chow’s participation in doubt it’s not exactly a shocker. Back in 2004 it was Kevin Smith who was supposed to be turning a Green Hornet movie into reality. That never worked out either. While for most the Green Hornet isn’t really all that compelling as a character, the people who keep signing up to turn him into a movie certainly are. Who knows what Smith would have come up with or what sort of weird, confounding movie happens when Seth Rogen plays a superhero? We may never know. |
