Hayden Christensen Says Yes To Jumper 2 image
The first thought that came to my mind when I read an interview with Hayden Christensen in The Toronto Sun was, why am I reading the Toronto Sun? Then I remembered it was because we scour the globe to bring you the latest movie news and right now all we can think about is the possibility of a sequel to Hayden’s last blockbuster success, Jumper. Actually, I can think about many other things, including how it’s gonna cost me $80 to fill up my Geo Prism.

Hayden tells the Canadian newspaper that Jumper 2 is a strong possibility, although who exactly is having conversations about it is not clear. First he says “we’re talking about it.” That sounds like he’s talking to someone about it. The pronoun “we” usually meaning yourself and at least one other person. Then, however, he says, “I know that they're having those conversations, I hear about them.” So, is it “we” having the conversations, or “they?” It’s not clear. The point is that Hayden is totally up for it.

The question is if we, the audience, are totally up for it. Jumper was savaged by the critics on its release and might go down as one of the worst reviewed movies of the year. It also made about $80 million in the U.S., which wouldn’t cover the $85 million budget. The international market, however, kicked in another $150 million in box office, making the sequel financially viable. Damn you, Belarus! In fact, there’s no reason to stop at one sequel. According to Christensen, “It was set up to become that -- a trilogy -- if it did well. And I think they're happy with how it did so they want to make another one. But I don't think they're rushing to get into production." So there you go, a trilogy might be made….sometime. And you thought reading the Canadian press was a waste of time.
