Hayley Atwell To Play Peggy Carter In The First Avenger: Captain America![]()
With only a few months left to fill out the cast, the next logical step for the folks behind The First Avenger: Captain America was the female lead. They already have their hero, played by Chris Evans; the sidekick, played by Sebastian Stan and the villain, who will be played by Hugo Weaving. Recently names like Emily Blunt, Keira Knightley and Alice Eve have been mentioned as up for the love interest part. Now the selection has been made, and while she is British, she wasn't on that list.
Hayley Atwell has been officially been selected to play Peggy Carter in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, according to THR. While she is lesser known stateside, Atwell has appeared in multiple TV shows and films in the UK, her last film being the Keira Knightley/Ralph Fiennes period piece The Duchess. In the comics Carter was an American fighter for the French Resistance against Germany, fighting alongside Captain America before they fell in love. Out of the entire Avengers line-up, Captain America may prove the hardest challenge, with many fans criticizing Marvel's choices from the beginning, starting with the selection of Joe Johnston as director. The film doesn't yet have the same type of A-list cast that fills out the Iron Man and Thor films, and it will be interesting to see where they go from here. |
