Heart Shaped Box To Be Movie![]()
Joseph King, the son of very speedy and well liked (by others, not me) novelist Stephen King, didn’t want to trade on his father’s name, so he created the nom-de-plume Joe Hill. The nom de plume lasted until he published his debut novel, “Heart Shaped Box,” and realized he’d get a bunch of publicity if he chose that moment to reveal his famous lineage. So, he did just that and now more people know about his book than otherwise would have and good for him.
Warner Brothers is going to take "Hill’s" debut novel and turn it into a movie. There aren’t many details about the picture at this point but The Hollywood Reporter says that the director will be Neil Jordan. Mr. J is no slouch, having been nominated for a directing Oscar with The Crying Game. He hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire since then, but his attachment to the project seems to indicate that this will be a little bit better than the usual piece of crap movies and TV specials that King’s books often turn into. The plot of the book, and presumably the movie, is about a middle-aged rock and roller who buys a suit that is haunted by his dead owner’s ghost. I guess he didn’t fit the suit! Seriously, this sounds like a combination of the Johnny Bravo and Hawaiian tiki idol episodes from 'The Brady Bunch.' Maybe they will give Sam the Butcher a cameo. |
