Hellboy Creator Mike Mignola Says Guillermo Del Toro Won't Make A Hellboy III![]()
I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I'm happy to mention it again: I love Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy movies. Each one is perfectly cast, (Ron Perlman as the title character is genius), the action in both films is fantastic, and the closeness between the director and comic creator Mike Mignola has served to satiate the fanboys. Unfortunately we've been hearing for a while now that a Hellboy III may not happen, and Mignola is now saying that the dream is dead.
Speaking with The Daily Blam at the Calgary Comics Expo, the Hellboy creator says that del Toro is simply too busy now to make a third installment and has heard directly from the director that he won't be making another movie. "Last I heard he said he would not make it," Mignola said. "Guillermo -- who I love -- in every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things....I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make." Mignola's not exactly exaggerating either. Outside of Pacific Rim, which del Toro will begin production on later this year, del Toro has talked about a dark Pinocchio movie, the Haunted Mansion reboot, and many more. This is normally the point that I would ask if the franchise could continue with another director, but I dare not even think about such a horrible idea. Guillermo del Toro is perfect for Hellboy and Hellboy is perfect for Guillermo del Toro. What is truly disappointing is that we'll never get to see what happens to the gang once they leave the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, and that just sucks. |
