Hero Blend #12: Batman Vs. Superman Vs. Captain America
Marvel and DC have been competing as the biggest names in the comic book industry for decades, and that rivalry has spilled over into Hollywood in a major way. Big screen adaptations of classic characters like Iron Man, Batman, Captain America and Superman have helped the two companies compete for dominance in the comic book movie world, both in terms of quality of product and success at the box office. In 2016, however, their quest for dominance will be coming to a head.
While we can expect that release dates will get shifted around in the next couple years – as they always are - as things stand right now both Marvel Studios’ Captain America 3 and Warner Bros/DC Comics’s Batman vs. Superman are set to be released on May 6, 2016. Marvel technically claimed the date first, announcing an untitled project for that particular weekend last June, and DC’s project only moved to the date in January after the film had been delayed, but neither studio is willing to budge. It’s a billion-dollar game of chicken, and the world is watching and waiting to see which company will blink first.
It’s definitely a tense situation, and one that we’ve broken down in the latest episode of Hero Blend. Our very own Movie Content Director Sean O’Connell is back on the show with me this week, and we’ve broken down the entire mess down to a series of pros and cons. Who should movie? Who should stay? Watch the episode to find out!
