Hero Blend #21: Marvel Studios' Ant-Man Finds Direction

Marvel Studios’ search to find a new writer and director for Ant-Man has finally come to a close.

The comic book movie world was shocked a couple weeks ago when it was revealed that director Edgar Wright and Marvel were parting ways on the 2015 summer blockbuster, and with production scheduled to start up extremely soon, the studio worked hard and worked quickly to try and find a replacement – though they had to go through a couple of names first. Trade reports suggested that everyone from Nicholas Stoller to Ruben Fleischer was brought in for meetings to talk about potentially taking over Ant-Man, but only this week did they finally find the filmmakers that they have been looking for… and they are quite interesting choices indeed.

With Edgar Wright no longer involved, Ant-Man is now being written by Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) and directed by Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Down With Love). Clearly these are not two names that the average person immediately thinks of when they are discussion potential comic book movie directors, and as a result the decision has been surrounded by quite a bit of controversy. But that just makes it great fodder for conversation on this week’s episode of Hero Blend.
